Safety

Creek water is cold and flows rapidly, please be careful. Also, rocks can be very slippery. No smoking in non-designated areas, or outside flames, especially during summertime when dry conditions are present.Rattlesnakes are active mostly in the morning and evening. They are non-aggressive, but watch where you step and don’t put your hands where you can’t see what lies ahead. This goes for scorpions and black widows as well, which also live in the area. Summers are very hot, be sure to stay hydrated.

Wildlife

We have many wild animals roaming the land. It is a rare treat to witness them. These include turkeys, deer, coyote, fox, bobcat, raccoon, possum, bear, mountain lion and skunk. Skunks aren’t threatened by humans, but if you surprise them, they might spray. They might walk right up to you, so don’t freak out if this happens, just walk away quickly. Bears are rarely seen, if you do meet one, do not run or they might think you are some kind of food they should chase. Yell, scream, make yourself look bigger by raising your arms, or throw sticks and rocks instead. This also goes for mountain lions, which are even more rare.

Accommodations

No smoking inside any community building. No candles. Shared accommodations include the community house, the kitchen house, video/DVD viewing room, DSL computer room and the laundry area. Please leave the shared community spaces cleaner than when you arrived and keep the area around your personal dwelling tidy.

Our Children

All children are expected to be respectful toward each other and fellow community members. If there are any problems, let a parent or other community person know. Kids can be a great source of knowledge, information, humor and helpfulness.

Community Mindfulness

Weekly chores will be assigned (or can be volunteered for) within and around the community buildings. Please clean up after yourself. This includes doing your dishes, tidying the bathroom, and keeping personal items out of the community spaces. A lost and found box is in the kitchen house closet for items left behind. Let someone know if something needs fixing or replacing. The garden gates must be kept closed at all times to keep the deer out.

Activities

There are many outdoor activities available in and around Three Springs. These include mountain biking, hiking, swimming, fishing, rock-climbing, backpacking, camping, etc.. Many people take part in these activities and would be happy to accompany you on an adventure or give you directions and information about the abundance of wonderful outdoor opportunities in the area.

Shopping

The nearest town is North Fork, which is about five miles away. The next biggest town is Oakhurst, which is 20 miles away. The city of Fresno, is about 50 miles away. There are regular visits to these places so if you need something from town, or if you’d like to tag along, leave a note on the kitchen table or talk to someone about their plans.

Apprentice / Volunteer Hours

Generally we will start between 7am - 8am, break at midday for lunch, yoga, resting etc., and reconvene around 2pm to finish the day. Days off will vary and can be made to accommodate everyones needs. Hours for long term apprentices are 32 hrs a week. Short term volunteers will assist with the projects going on each workday.
